CID to host Youth in Aviation Day September 20
Static aircraft displays, open houses at the Aviation Workforce Development Campus and more will be featured at Youth in Aviation Day at the Eastern Iowa Airport – CID from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 20.
This FREE event is open to the general public and will provide an opportunity to see general aviation aircraft, airport equipment, remote control aircraft and speak to representatives from various Eastern Iowa aviation groups.
The hangars for Kirkwood Community College’s Aviation Maintenance Technology and Coe College’s Aviation Management & Flight Operations will both be open with school representatives on hand to discuss their programs.
Groups scheduled to participate include:
- Collins Aerospace
- Eastern Iowa Women in Aviation
- NASA (Iowa State University)
- Signature Aviation
- Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 33
- Iowa 99s
- Cedar Rapids SkyHawks RC Club
- Eastern Iowa Airport – CID
- Aircraft scheduled to be onsite include:
- Collins Aerospace Challenger 604
- Chinook helicopter
- Black Hawk helicopter
- Bell helicopter
- Lifeguard helicopter
- EAA Chapter 33 general aviation aircraft
There will be three food trucks: El Azul, Wich-Uh-Waffle and Kona Ice onsite during the event to purchase lunch or snacks.
This is a rain or shine event. In the event of lightning or high winds that would force a cancellation, notification will be made to the media and on the airport’s social media platforms.
