Airport Records 1 Million Passengers for Seventh Time

 For Immediate Release
Jan. 23, 2017

Iowa’s Creative Corridor – The Eastern Iowa Airport (CID) had more than 1 million passengers in 2016, the seventh time it has surpassed the 1 million mark.

The total number of passengers flying into and out of CID for 2016 is 1,084,310. That total is the third highest in its history.

No. 1 was in 2014 when there were 1,132,991 passengers and No. 2 was in 2015 with 1,105,625 passengers.

The year ended on a high note with October and November passenger numbers breaking records for the airport, according to CID officials.

A key reason for those stronger numbers is the addition of CID’s 13th non-stop destination – Charlotte, North Carolina, on American Airlines. In addition, CID is seeing an increase in seat capacity due to larger aircraft. Delta Airlines began mainline service to Atlanta in October, upgrading from a 76-seat aircraft to a 110-seat aircraft.

Capacity for the first quarter of calendar year 2017 is up. The number of flights is up 6 percent and the number of seats is up 11 percent compared to the same time last year.
