New In line Baggage System Up and Running at The Eastern Iowa Airport

Cedar Rapids, Iowa – The days of dropping off your checked bags at the ticket counters have returned to The Eastern Iowa Airport. Since 2002 when post 9/11 security measures were put into place, passengers that have checked bags have had to bring their bags from the ticket counters to the lobby to be scanned by the Federal Transportation Security Administration (TSA). On Friday, the machines in the terminal went silent as the new system moved TSA from the lobby to a new secure addition to the terminal.

The project to build a new baggage area on the back of the terminal and bring checked bags from the ticket counters via a belt system to the new baggage area began in May of 2011. The 10,000-square-foot secure addition will open up the terminal and allow for more space and minimize confusion.

The new ticket counters that opened in June and the inline baggage system opens the lobby space to begin the next phase of the modernization of the terminal. New restrooms in the lobby are scheduled to be open in early December providing added convenience and a new vending area. The Airport is working with consultants to begin the plans to renovate and modernize the terminal to provide added comfort, technology upgrades, amenities, and a new look and feel.

Foth Infrastructure and Environment, with an office in Cedar Rapids serves as The Eastern Iowa Airport’s engineering consultant atorvastatin generic. Miller Dunwiddie Architects, Minneapolis, is the project architect and BNP Associates, Inc., Denver, is a consulting firm specializing in aviation baggage handling.
