Thanksgiving Busy Travel Time at CID

For Immediate Release
Nov. 17, 2017

CID – Thanksgiving week will be busy at The Eastern Iowa Airport (CID) and airport officials are asking passengers to arrive at least 90 minutes prior to their flight departure.

Thanksgiving and Spring Break are traditionally the two busiest times at CID. This past year CID has seen an increase in seat capacity, with larger aircraft and some additional flights.

That, combined with full flights for the holiday, can mean getting through the security checkpoint line can take more time than usual.

Pam Hinman, CID director of marketing and communications, says holiday travel can be stressful.

“We always ask people to arrive at least 90 minutes early to avoid any last minute issues,” she says. “We know one of the benefits of CID is how easy it is to arrive and get to your gate, but during busy travel times it is essential to arrive early to ensure you don’t miss your flight.”
During the holidays, there are often people flying who are not frequent travelers and may not know all the rules when it comes to security, Hinman says. She encourages travelers to check the Federal Transportation Security Administration (TSA) website at https://flycid.comwww.tsa.gov/ for all the latest information regarding prohibited items for carry-on luggage.

The airport has implemented several new customer enhancements to make travel out of CID less stressful and more efficient, including:

  • Fly-Through Parking: Customers are able to enter the parking lot with a credit card (eliminating the need to take a ticket) and then use the same credit card to exit the parking lot, streamlining the process.
  • CID Valet Services: Full-service valet is available by placing a reservation at flycid.com/valet-parking. When you arrive at CID, pull up in front of the Guest Services booth along terminal drive. A CID Guest Services associate will be waiting for you. Upon your return, your vehicle will be ready for you curbside of the terminal. The introductory price for this customer service is $12 per day (which includes valet and parking) – this is the same as the daily rate for short-term parking. It is a credit card service only. Payment is made when you return from your trip. See more of the world (and less of the parking lot) when you fly CID

Other recent customer enhancements:

  • Four EV charging stations have been installed, two in the long-term parking lot and two in the short-term parking lot. There is no charge to use the charging station, regular daily parking rates apply. For more information go to: https://flycid.comna.chargepoint.com/charge_point
  • Remodeled restaurant pre-security. Prairie Bistro and Java House opened earlier this year with a new, updated look. A new menu and full bar are available.SSP America, the contractor who manages CID concessions, made the improvements as the airport continues its terminal modernization project. Prairie Bistro opens at 4:30 a.m. and is open until passengers on the last scheduled departure have gone through security checkpoint.
